About this Blog

So, what's all this about anyway? I'm sure that quite a few people have asked themselves that question after coming across this blog. To be honest, when I started Thomils Random Ramblings back in November 2011, it was simply meant as an English companion to my German blog which was at that time my primary "project". It was only with my move to Ireland in 2012 and the subsequent transition into a more multilingual environment that English slowly began to take precedence over my German blog, something that was never planned. Both blogs are very much non-profit and a hobby of mine, with experiments with Google Adsense ending in complete and utter failure!

Having said that, the non-commercial nature of this blog leaves me free to concentrate on writing what I think and believe, and while I'm certainly no longer "fresh off the boat" here in Cork, there are still enough idiosyncracies here in Ireland to keep me supplied with material for years. And yes, there are tech reviews as well, I am, after all, a proud nerd and gadget hound. How the blog will develop beyond that is still very much in the air, given all the uncertainties that the events of 2020 stirred up and that 2021 will, in all likelihood, stir up as well. One thing's for sure though. If there's something worth writing about, I will certainly do so.

One final word of advice. While I try to update this blog as regularly as possible, it is still very much a side-project. I work full-time in a job that tends up to take rather more of my day than I'd like, even in lockdown. As such, I may not always be able to keep up a regular blogging schedule. Paying my bills and filling my fridge and pantry does take precedence, after all.

About the Author

I was born in Northern Germany, near Hamburg, and grew up in Germany, the Czech Republic and Austria. After several odd jobs, I moved into the IT sector in 2008 and have been working in that industry ever since. Following an "offer I couldn't refuse" from Apple, I moved to Ireland in 2012, where I've been living ever since.
