North Cape or Bust - Norway Coastal Cruise in November 2024
There's no denying it. Over the last few months, I've not really done much on this blog. The reason is simple, my life has been going through some momentous changes since the beginning of the year, none of them being really positive, and I had to focus most of my energy on simply keeping going! Having said that, I have continued working on new blog posts in the background as well, brainstorming ideas and typing up drafts, but I couldn't really find the focus needed to get an article ready for publication.
But there's another reason as well. You see, back in November of 2024, I embarked on a trip of a lifetime in order to fulfil an ambition that I've had for years, on a route that has been on my mind for longer than I care to remember. I went on a voyage on the famous hurtigrute, the Norwegian coastal ferry and mail packet route that has been running for over 130 years at this point. The round trip as spectacular, from the landscapes to the northern lights to the waves in parts of the Barents Sea! It was very much a bucket list experience for me, although at times, it was also a pass-the-bucket experience, again due to those aforementioned waves. I'd always wanted to write about it but as the eleven day journey unfolded, the images on my SD cards and phone camera roll continued to accumulate, and the sights and experiences grew ever more impressive, it soon became clear that a series of blog posts wouldn't be enough to even remotely cover this incredible journey.
Instead, I decided to build a dedicated sub page on this blog to give the experience the room it deserves. From the history of the route to the ship, the journey itself and a list of the important things to know if you're planning to go on this journey yourself, you'll find it all on the page linked below:
I've also added a permanent link to the top of this page so that you'll always be able to find it, even when this blog post inevitably disappears from the front page as more and more articles accumulate. So have a read through it, bookmark it, and feel free to share it. Above all though, take this journey yourself, it is simply breathtaking
